Research interests

Our lab is broadly interested in understanding how proteins mature as they are made on the ribosome.  In particular, we are investigating how the speed of ribosome translation impacts the biogenesis and homeostasis of nascent proteins (Co-translational Proteostasis). Recent work has shown that this aspect is one of the major contributors to different phenotypes of aging (Hallmarks of Aging) in multiple organisms. We integrate bioinformatics and biochemical/biophysical techniques to discover and validate novel mechanisms that ensure proper maturation of nascent proteins and how they get impaired during aging.
