Biography
Shikui Chen joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University in Fall 2013. His research encompasses both the theoretical development and practical application of topology optimization, computational design, and PDE-constrained optimization. His work includes customized medical devices for vascular disease treatment, supported by the NIH; topology optimization and advanced additive manufacturing of electric machines, supported by the NSF, DOE, and GE; topology optimization of soft robotic systems; and simulation-based design under uncertainty.
Dr. Chen is a member of ASME and AIAA. He received the ASME Compliant Mechanisms Award in both 2007 and 2025 at the 31st and 49th ASME Mechanisms and Robotics Conferences, respectively.
