Abstract
Exploring the peak regulation ability of combined heat and power (CHP) units could improve the severe wind curtailment problem in Northern China. Peak regulation compensation is an effective way to stimulate CHP units to participate in power peak regulation initiatively. Based on the peak regulation compensation mechanism, this paper investigates the participation of CHP units in power system peak regulation. Firstly, a model for assessing the available peak regulation capacity of CHP units and the corresponding peak regulation cost is proposed by considering complicated operation constraints of the heating system. The proposed model reflects heating-dependency and temporal-coupling characteristics of CHP peak regulation. Secondly, based on peak regulation cost of CHP units as well as the peak regulation compensation mechanism, an integrated power and heat dispatch method considering peak regulation initiative of the units is proposed. Compared with the traditional vertical integration dispatch mode, the proposed method can better reflect the willingness of CHP units to participate in power system peak regulation with economic incentives. Finally, case studies are provided to analyze the impact factors of the available peak regulation capacity and cost of CHP units, as well as verifying the effectiveness of the proposed dispatch method under the peak regulation compensation policy.
