Abstract

Infrared and far-infrared transmittance measurements were performed on Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (2:2:1:2) and Bi2Sr2CuO6 (2:2:0:1). Below Tc, a characteristic feature occurs at =700 cm-1 (12kBTc) in the 2:2:1:2 material. No similar feature is found in the 2:2:0:1 compound. The 2:2:1:2 material also showed substantial ab-plane anisotropy.
