Abstract

3D printing has been hailed as a technology that will usher in a new industrial age. The technology has many advantages over traditional manufacturing, and proponents of it say that 3D printing could bring sustainable industrial transformation by altering supply chains, manufacturing jobs and production. But like all technologies, 3D printing is bound by a complex socio-technical system that could limit its growth and further increase inequality.
