3D Source Tracking with Large Antenna Arrays in the Fresnel Region

Abstract

This paper aims to study the tracking performance of a large receiving antenna array where a moving source is in near-field propagation conditions. We investigate the possibility of estimating the source's trajectory by exploiting phase and amplitude observation measurements accounting for the curvature-of-arrival of the impinging wavefront. Our results demonstrate that under narrowband signaling conditions and without synchronization, one can track sources with high accuracy.
