N2 - We address the design of a joint angle and delay detection scheme over acoustic links using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation signals. The design focuses on the broadband nature of acoustic channels, and provides angle and delay estimates of multipath arrivals in acoustic environments. We propose two algorithms for identifying the multipath arrivals, one based on an iterative procedure, and another based on a reduced-complexity search. The proposed algorithms require no extra configuration to the current OFDM acoustic communications system and necessitate minimal if no changes in the hardware. We also include analyses regarding angular resolution and ambiguity for array design and further implementation. We demonstrate the proposed algorithms in simulation and using an over-the-air acoustic communications testbed. The results indicate excellent performance for real-time implementation.
