Abstract

With the use of a generalization of Wick's theorem it is possible to derive an explicit expression for the fixed-J, T trace of any power of a rotationally invariant operator in a given shell-model configuration space. The results have been worked out for the first and second moments of a hamiltonian. Exact results are compared with those obtained from an Edgeworth approximation for the number of states for fixed angular-momentum projection.
