Abstract
Note From Dr. Merle A. Sande — Toxoplasmosis of the CNS has become a common and perplexing clinical entity in the patient with AIDS. We have asked Drs. Benjamin J. Luft and Jack S. Remington, two experts in the field, to give their opinions on several controversial management issues that are particularly relevant to the infectious diseases consultant: The role of serology in diagnosis, indications for brain biopsy, the most effective way to handle tissue from biopsy specimens to ensure maximum yield, treatment of the patient who cannot tolerate sulfadiazine, and indications for prophylaxis.
