Abstract

The mesoscale predictability of the Penn Sate-NCAR Mesoscale Model (MM5) over the Northeast US was analyzed. The MM5 is running through a collaborative effort between Stony Brook University (SBU) and the local National Weather Service. The SBU MM5 forecasts were verified using an instrumented ferry over Long Island Sound between Port Jefferson, NY and Bridgeport, CT. The SBU modeling system was expanded to include an 18-member MM5 ensemble forecast system using different physics and initial condition to include additional observation.
