Abstract

This article presents the treatment options available for venous thromboembolism, focusing mainly on pulmonary embolism. The different types of oral anticoagulants and the duration of anticoagulation treatment are reviewed. The authors also provide an overview of the treatments available in cases of more severe pulmonary embolism leading to cardiogenic shock.
