Abstract
Arsenic (As) is a natural element, ubiquitous in the environment, cycling through water, land, air, and living systems with great implications for human exposure especially through drinking water. Exposure to arsenic has evolved into a worldwide public health matter with an estimated 100000000 people exposed to arsenic levels >10μgl-1 in drinking water (recommended maximum level by WHO), with the largest population of concern in Bangladesh. Epidemiology studies over the past two decades have identify several physiologic systems with adverse outcomes with arsenic exposure suggesting it is a systemic toxin with no safe level of chronic exposure.
