Burial of dredged sediment beneath the floor of New York Harbor.

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Discusses dredge spoil disposal by ocean burial in a pit and subsequent capping. Describes the background to the New York (U.S.A.) harbour project and presents results for the first phase of the projects. Plans for second and third stages are noted. Mud dredged with a clamshell bucket was planned to be at least 6 feet thick and capped with sand. The form of the first stage was predicted empirically using isopach maps of dredged sediment mounds in other areas. Actual ridge is more peaked than predicted. (C.J.U.)
