Abstract

Coherent synchrotron radiation (CSR) effects in bunch compressors were analyzed and schemes for reducing the CSR effects were presented. Bending arcs were used for bunch compression in photoinjected energy recovery linac (PERL) and for ultraviolet free electron laser (UVFEL) chicane compressors were used. Pairwise emittance growth cancellation mechanism in the PEERL arc design and careful selection of chicane parameters in UVFEL were employed for reducing the CSR effects.
