Abstract

We discuss some of the issues attending the study of the early evolution of neutron stars. In particular, the effect of convection during the protoneutron star stage is investigated. We conclude that convection not only affects a young neutron star's first seconds in interesting ways, but also that it makes the long-term mechanism for Type II supernova explosions more viable and energetic.
