title = "Cryptococcus-neutrophil interaction",
abstract = "The involvement of neutrophils in the fight against the human pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans has predominantly focused on the molecules released during the oxidative burst and those formed in the granular subsets of neutrophils. Very little is known about which and how host signaling pathways regulate the battle. Recent discoveries highlight that the host sphingolipid pathway is important for controlling cryptococcal killing by neutrophils in vitro and, potentially, also in the lung environment. This chapter is timely in describing new developments and findings in this field.",
