Abstract

Crystal-growth defects in sedimentary calcites and dolomites were examined by TEM. Dislocation densities are highly variable and distributions are heterogeneous. Growth-related stacking faults are absent in calcite but fairly common in dolomite, possibly due to its non-stoichiometry. These growth microstructures might be useful as indicators of growth conditions. -R.A.H.
