Depressive symptoms and adolescent romance: Theory, research, and implications

Abstract

An emerging body of research indicates that in adolescence, romantic activities, experiences, and relationships are associated with depressive symptoms. This article reviews this literature, highlighting the public and mental health implications of the association, and proposes a research agenda for the future.
