Abstract
Radionuclides with half-lives ranging from 24 days to 1.5 Ma can be used to determine rates of mixing of marine sediments by infauna and rates of sediment accumulation. These sediment chronologies can be applied to inputs of various paleoceanographic proxies, enabling reconstruction of past ocean conditions. This article reviews the radionuclides commonly used and gives examples.
