Abstract

Lithium/silver vanadium oxide batteries consists of a lithium anode, organic electrolyte, woven or nonwoven separator and a cathode fabricated from a mixture of Teflon, graphite, and silver vanadium oxide (SVO) which results from the thermal decomposition of silver nitrate and vanadium pentoxide. This paper presents the performance characteristics of Li/SVO batteries assembled from samples of SVO with varying amounts of silver. The batteries were discharged by constant resistance with intermittent current pulsing. The SVO samples used for the studies were characterized by x-ray powder diffraction, atomic absorption, and infrared spectroscopy.
