Abstract

Three distinct light-weight media, 3-5 times lighter than conventional LID media, were evaluated in this study for stormwater pollutant removal as well as plant growth in low organic media and artificial lighting conditions. The combination of adsorption and filtration media was most efficient in treating heavy metals and TSS (> 90% removal). This was the first part of a multistage research project that aims at designing a novel LID of suspended raingardens. Our research demonstrates that suspended raingardens could become a viable LID alternative for the treatment of stormwater pollutants with our novel, lightweight media mix.
