N2 - The effects of the momentum flux ratio J, for J=0.01,0.3,2.7, and 5.0 are investigated in this study using the Hyshot scramjet engine combustor model. The observed effects for the range investigated are not as dramatic as we had expected; perhaps this is a consequence of the simplicity of the combustor geometry investigated, vis-à-vis the boundary conditions of the problem. However, the effects are somewhat significant between J=0.01and J=2.7, but the results for J=2.7and J=5.0 are much more similar than envisioned. One significant manifestation of the effects of J is the higher penetration in the vicinity of the injection location and in the location of the reaction zone away from the horizontal wall, along the axial direction, with increasing Jvalues. Higher J values also appear to lead to higher strain rates in the vicinity of the injection region and hence to a lower extent of reaction in this region.
