Abstract

Approaches to modeling the evolution of community structures are reviewed and criticized; a new approach is proposed. New species introduced to a model community are chosen as "ecologically continuous" mutants of their progenitors. Although competition is strong in every step of such a process, the community is shown to evolve towards non-interaction.
