Fast quantum search using coherent electronic states of Rydberg atoms

Abstract

The use of an N-state Rydberg system to mimic an N-qubit quantum register is demonstrated and applied to solve the database search problem is proposed by Grover a single unitary operation. Grover's model of a quantum register is a collection of N 2-level qubits. It is shown that one can recast this problem using N levels of a single quantum system. An optically driven unitary transformation on a coherent electronic state in atomic cesium is used.
