Abstract

Undoubtedly, experimental biology has entered the era of “omics,” and with a vengeance - somewhat to the dismay of the more focused mechanistic scientist. This era was ushered in by adopting “big” science in biology with the initial target of sequencing entire genomes. To distinguish this pursuit as a novel activity, the term genomics was introduced and quickly gained wide acceptance, especially in the lay media.
