Abstract

Methanol oxidation was studied over monolayer coverage supported vanadium oxide as a function of the specific oxide support (CeO2, ZrO2, TiO2, Al2O3, and SiO2). The contribution of the bridging V-O-Support bond to the catalysts redox activity was determined by methanol-TPSR and steady state methanol oxidation reaction. In situ Raman spectroscopy provided that the supported vanadium oxide species 100% dispersed at monolayer coverage. The order of magnitude variation in TOF with the specific oxide support suggested that the V-O-Support bond is critical in controlling the TOF. The equilibrium adsorption constant depended on the V-O-Support bridging bond and these values were closely related to the catalysts redox activity.
