Abstract
Peridynamics is a new continuum mechanics formulation. It has some advantages with respect to classical continuum mechanics, especially for predicting failure and representing non-classical physics. In this chapter, a brief information about peridynamics will be given. First, the details of the derivation of the peridynamic equation of motion will be presented. Then, the procedure to relate peridynamic material constants to material constants of classical continuum mechanics will be demonstrated. Next, the definition of failure in peridynamic framework will be presented. Moreover, some information about numerical implementation of peridynamics will be provided. Finally, some future directions of peridynamics will be highlighted.
