Abstract

The reasons for the molecular heterogeneity of connexin channels in vivo remain unclear. Funtional replacement of one connexin gene with another has now revealed unexpected phenotypes and shows that cellular homeostasis depends not simply on cell-cell communication but also on the correct types of connexin.
