Hormonal effects on the immune system

Patricia K. Coyle, MD is Professor of Neurology and Director of the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Comprehensive Care Center at the School of Medicine, State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Coyle received her BS degree with highest honors from Fordham University and her MD degree from Johns Hopkins, where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. She next completed a year long medical internship at the Cornell New York Hospital-Memorial Sloan Kettering program, then returned to Johns Hopkins to complete a residency and chief residency in Neurology. This was followed by a two year fellowship in Neuroimmunology and Neurovirology at Hopkins. Dr. Coyle then moved to Stony Brook, where she established her research laboratory built a busy clinical practice, and started the MS Care Center. Dr. Coyle is the author of over 100 peer reviewed and invited articles. She is recognized as a leading expert on MS and nervous system infections. Her particular areas of expertise include Lyme disease, cerebrospinal fluid, therapeutics, neuroimmunology, and fatigue. She has been the recipient of over 20 major grants, and is currently director of a program project grant on neurologic Lyme disease, and is also funded by an ROI and sevreral clinical trials grants. She is Associate Director of the Clinical Research Center at Stony Brook University Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Coyle is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Neurological Association (ANA). She is chair of the Academy Graduate Education Subcommittee, and a member of the Education Committees of the Academy and ANA. She is chair of the Long Island Chapter National MS Society Clinical Advisory Committee, and a member of the National MS Society Medical Advisory Board and Professional Education Committee. She has served on the FDA Advisory Panel for CNS and PNS drugs, and for vaccine development.
