Abstract
The low-temperature form of LiBGeO4 and the new composition LiBSiO4 have been synthesized as single crystals for the first time by employing a hydrothermal recrystallization technique. They have been studied using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. These compounds possess the cristobalite structure, crystallizing in the tetragonal space group I4 with Z = 2. The absence of a center of symmetry was confirmed by a second harmonic generation test. The cell parameters are a = 4.5016 (3), c = 6.901 (3) Å for LiBGeO4 and a = 4.3792 (2), c = 6.7784 (3) Å for LiBSiO4. The lithium atoms are well ordered into sites with approximately tetrahedral geometry.
