Abstract

Hyperthyroidism can present in a wide range of severity from subclinical disease to life-threatening thyroid storm requiring prompt treatment. Workup for thyroidal causes involves either radioactive iodine uptake scanning or testing for thyroid receptor antibodies. There are a variety of treatment options including thyroid surgery, radioactive iodine, and antithyroidal medications.
