Abstract
The simulation of the protein structure by IBM's Blue Gene computer is discussed. The ability to simulate protein folding has made supercomputers of Blue Gene's capabilities indispensable for cutting edge research in the life sciences. The Blue Gene project has generated new kinds of large-scale, interdisciplinary collaborations among biologists and computer engineers.
