In-Situ Growth of "Fused", Ozonized Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube - CdTe Quantum Dot Junctions

Abstract

The in-situ growth of crystalline CdTe quantum dot (QD) junctions onto oxidized, ozonized single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) surface was analyzed. The functionalized SWNT were used as ligands and as crystal growth terminators. The highly variable shape and size of these QDs was due to the spatial localization and distribution of oxygenated functional groups on SWNT surface. A high degree of QD immobilization was achieved with ozonized tubes. The energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) measurements of the synthesized heterostructure in scanning electron microscope (SEM) confirmed the presence CdTe particles on the nanotube surface.
