In Vivo Characterization of Partial-Thickness Burn Injuries Using THz Time-Domain Spectral Imaging in a Porcine Model

Abstract

THz imaging is a promising modality to improve the standard-of-care for patients with partial thickness burn injuries. In this study, we show the accuracy and efficacy of THz-TDSI for characterizing and monitoring burn wounds in a porcine model. We show that our new THz hyperspectral metric, Z, can differentiate between partial-thickness burns against their histologically determined depths of injury (p < 0.002).
