Abstract
The hysteresis in the differential resistance vs. electric field curves was investigated in the charge-density-wave (CDW) state of NbSe3 and TaS3 by using non-perturbative potential probes. Our results indicate long range remanent deformations of the CDWs in both compounds, leading to the breakdown of translational invariance in the bulk of the specimen.
