Abstract

A scheme is proposed for trapping atoms having finite magnetic moments using inhomogeneous magnetostatic fields. Fields of ∼0.1 T can be used to contain atoms decelerated to v ∼ few m/s. Application to the NBS. decelerated atom project is discussed.
