Mapping nursing competencies for disaster response within the civil defense context: a scoping review protocol

Objective: – The objective of this scoping review will be to map and synthesize the literature on core nursing competencies required for disaster response within the context of civil defense. Introduction: – In 2023, 326 major disasters related to natural hazards occurred worldwide, affecting over 93 million people across 117 countries on all continents. Such events require the coordinated response of multiple professionals, and nurses play a vital role in this context. Eligibility criteria: – This scoping review will include quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods studies and reviews reporting on nurses’ competencies required for disaster response. Methods: – This review will follow the JBI methodology for scoping reviews and will be reported in line with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Papers published in English, Italian, Spanish, and French will be searched for in PubMed, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Embase (Ovid), Scopus, and CINAHL (EBSCOhost). There will be no date limitations on the searches. Two reviewers will independently conduct screening, data extraction, and critical appraisal.
