Abstract
A study was carried out to demonstrate that the acetylated thrombin, in contrast to that produced with normal prothrombin, does not activate human platelets. This allowed to quantify platelet activation by flow stresses only, of a platelet buffer that was recirculated in a flow loop through a St. Jude Medical mechanical heart valve.
