Millimeter-wave radar observations of vertical air motion structure and evolution in precipitation

Abstract

Millimeter wave radars are considered primarily as cloud radars due to their high sensitivity on weak targets such as shallow cloud. A unique application of millimeter wave radars is presented. This application capitalizes on the use of Mie scattering peculiarities as a means to identify raindrops of a given size in a dropsize distribution.
