Abstract

A low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) intensity analysis of the Fe left brace 211 right brace 2 multiplied by 1-0 surface has led to a missing-row model with oxygen atoms in the long-bridge sites at a height above the top iron layer of (0. 26 plus or minus 0. 05) Angstrom. The first interlayer iron spacing, d//1//2, is (1. 09 plus or minus 0. 04) Angstrom (increased from the value for clean Fe left brace 211 right brace of 1. 05 Angstrom, bulk value 1. 17), the first-to-second iron layer registry shift is (1. 16 plus or minus 0. 06) Angstrom (increased from the clean Fe left brace 211 right brace value 1. 07 Angstrom, bulk value 0. 827).
