Abstract
An approximate model is developed for a network of transceivers which share a pool of channels according to a simple channel-scanning protocol. A ready user sequentially searches for an idle channel on which to transmit its message. The model consists of a two-dimensional state-dependent queuing representation and accounts for system losses due to timeout limitations and imperfect signal detection capability. Sample numerical results are presented.
