Abstract

The morphological changes during the annealing of polybutene-1 fiber was studied using differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) and x-ray scattering. The fibers formed at low take-up speeds behaved like short fiber composites, while fibers spun at high take-up speeds behaved like continuous fibers composites. The mechanical behaviour of fibers spun at low take-up speed was dominated by the matrix. The study showed that in fiber spun at higher speeds, the mechanical behaviour was dominate by the shish moieties, and crystal disorientation was not possible.
