New results on the spin dependent structure function gd1 of the deuteron

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

We have made a new measurement of the spin dependent structure function gd1 of the deuteron in the kinematic range 0.003 < χ < 0.7 and 1.0 < Q2 < 100.0 GeV2. Combining the preliminary results from this measurement with our previous measurements of the deuteron we find the first moment Γd1 = 0.037 ± 0.006(stat) ± 0.005(syst) at Q20 = 10 GeV2. To evolve the structure functions from the measured Q2 of the data to 10 GeV2 we use a next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD analysis. Using such QCD evolved structure functions we test the Bjorken and the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule.
