abstract = "Photonic techniques are being investigated for signal transmission in the next generation high energy physics experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. Lightwave techniques (analog and digital) constitute a key issue in the front-ends of particle tracking detectors. External Modulation of (remotely located) cw lasers, using electro-optic intensity modulators arrays, can meet the requirements better than direct modulation of LEDs and laser diodes. The development of semiconductor modulators for LHC has focused on an asymmetric Fabry-Perot cavity device. A 4-channel demonstrator with a micro-lens optical interface has been developed and tested.",
