Abstract

The role of back-of-the-envelope calculations in quantitative science is discussed. The Clifford Swartz's book called 'Back-of-the-Envelope Physics' is elaborated. The book shows the power of putting estimated values into simple equations and contains more than 100 approximation examples along with the lessons. The ability to make approximations about a phenomenon is also elaborated.
