Abstract

A case study is given that illustrates the complex evolution of sea breezes across the New York City (NYC) metro area, and shows how unique NYC observational network allows for the monitoring of marine and urban effects in real time. In addition to providing real-time monitoring capabilities, the network also facilitates verification of high-resolution model forecasts in an urban-coastal environment, and may serve to improve such forecasts through advanced data assimilation in the future.
