Abstract

Ventral rudimentary eyes were assayed for cAMP content and adenylate cyclase activity. Octopamine stimulated an increase in cAMP content and potentiated the enhancement of adenylate cyclase activity by the poorly hydrolyzable GTP analog, guanylylimidodiphosphate. These findings support the notion that octopamine may control or modulate some photoreceptor function through cAMP as a second messenger.
