Abstract

Optically controllable elements for integrated atom optics were realized with optical potentials in less than one micron distance from a surface consisting of continuous source, a quasi-2D shutterable atom beam, a local detector and a quasi-1D lattice. Argon atoms from a slow atomic beam were collected and cooled in a magneto-optical surface trap (MOST) above a gold-coated prism surface were used to realize continuous atom source for the waveguide. It was observed that the modulation of the potential resulted in a lateral localization of the atomic distribution depending on the modulation depth.
