Abstract

This paper gives an overview of the initial results obtained from a series of tests applied to stabilised/solidified (S/S) waste-forms recovered from three full-scale S/S remedial operations in the United States, during 2003-4. The samples recovered, up to 15 years old, were used to examine the long-time performance of S/S. The contamination on the sites was typically a mixture of inorganic (arsenic, lead) and organic (PAH, PCP, dioxin) contaminants. All the wastes investigated so far met the acceptance criteria set at the time of treatment by S/S. Some difficulties in obtaining good samples for subsequent investigation were encountered, particularly at the site located in Florida.
