Performance of high intensity γ-rays source driven by the Duke storage ring FEL

Abstract

The performance of high intensity γ-rays source driven by the Duke storage ring free electron lasers (FEL) was presented. The slow ramping of storage ring magnets was used to tune the energy of electron beam to the energy of operation. An on-axis collimator was used to mono-chromatize the gamma ray beam. The linac operating at 270 MeV was used to demonstrate the full energy injection in the top on mode. Analysis showed good agreement between the measured and theoretically predicted parameters of the γ ray beams.
